Children in this group are learning to cooperate and share, becoming more independent and assuming small responsibilities. They learn to follow directions from the teacher and communicate with classmates throughout the day; improving verbal and listening skills and building their vocabulary. They gain early recognition of colors, numbers and shapes using matching and counting concepts. Weekly themes on family, community, health, safety, and transportation give an early understanding of social studies. Preschool children love making original creations using various art mediums. At this age, pleasing others (especially their parents and teacher) increases self-esteem. Motor development is improved through ball activities, simple games, running, jumping, climbing and balance. Music and drama are used throughout the day as the children enjoy songs, instruments, movement and self-expression.
